Today I’m thrilled to welcome awesome #BookBlogger Beth to the book review café. Before I share Beth’s #TopFiveThursday here’s a couple of reasons you should be following Beth’s blog if you aren’t already. Beth has been blogging for Five years, so she probably has one of the longest running blogs that I follow. Beth reads and reviews a wide genre of books so I’m always finding new authors and books to add to my reading pile (as if I need anymore 😂)
Top five books you’ve read so far this year?
I’ve read some amazing books this year but the stand-out top five are (drum roll please!)
The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (a re-read)
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
The Fireman by Joe Hill
The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge
Top five authors you think everyone should read?
Stephen King (I’m obsessed!)
Margaret Atwood
Sarah Perry
Eowyn Ivey
Sarah Hilary
Top five books you want to read before the year is out?
Oh gosh, there’s so many!
Melmoth – Sarah Perry
The Trauma Cleaner – Sarah Krasnostein
Block 46 – Johana Gustawsson
Everything I Never Told You – Celeste Ng
The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah
Top five tips you would give to new bloggers?
1.) Don’t stress about stats or followers. It’s not the be all and end all. I’ve found mine gradually increasing over the years so if you’re brand new and worrying about it – don’t! It will get better, I promise.2.) Use social media to your advantage. I post on a number of different places including WordPress, Twitter, Tumblr, Goodreads and my Facebook page.
3.) Interact with other bloggers. Comment on their posts or join in on conversations on Twitter. The blogging community is so wonderful, I’ve made some brilliant friends and you will be welcomed with open arms.
4.) If you’re not posting every day, don’t panic. Life gets in the way sometimes and it’s not always possible. Don’t beat yourself up about it and remember – your blog, your rules.
5.) Don’t look at other bloggers posts and think that your posts are awful in comparison. Everyone writes a review differently and as long as you’re being true to yourself and writing YOUR way, people will enjoy reading them.
Top five blogs you follow?
Can I please have six? I can’t choose five from these wonderful ladies! 😊 Ok just because you asked so nicely, but you actually only sent me five 😂😂🙈

Who is Beth? Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Hi, I’m Beth and I’m a (loud and proud) bookworm. I love reading anything and everything and am pretty much open to trying anything new although I do have a bit of a fear of “chick-lit.” I’ve loved reading all my life – my mum taught me to read before I went to kindergarten and I haven’t stopped since! I’ve gone through quite a few reading “stages” in my life. When I was younger, I loved Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton then I progressed as a young adult to devouring any Point Horror or Christopher Pike I could get my hands on but I also loved The Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High. It was when I was a teenager that I first got introduced to Stephen King who is now one of my all-time favourite authors. The first book I read of his was IT and I’m not ashamed to say it scared the bejesus out of me! Then I went through a phase where all I would read was crime and thriller fiction, especially books by the wonderful Tess Gerritsen and Karin Slaughter, who remain firm favourites today.
I’ve been blogging for five years now and I’m thoroughly enjoying meeting new people, going to literary events and finding gems of books that I wouldn’t normally pick up. Blogging has really expanded my horizons book wise and while I still love reading crime/thrillers I absolutely love contemporary and literary fiction and have a soft spot for YA fiction nurtured by one of my favourite people – my sister and fellow blogger Chrissi Reads. I use NetGalley and Book Bridgr like they were going out of fashion and love receiving books for review. (I think my postman hates me…) I have quite a relaxed review policy but it may take a while for me to get round to them due to my huge TBR list! Seriously, my bookshelves may collapse… but I love it.

Great to see Beth featured and I’m especially pleased to see The Heart’s Invisible Furies is one of her top five reads of the year as I urged her to read it 😊

I had a Christopher Pike and Babysitters Club obsession as a young girl too! And got obsessed with Stephen King at a young age. I really liked to be scared. I’m not as much of a fan of his work as an adult…maybe I made myself sick of him since I read his books constantly between the ages of about 10-16. Your blogging tips are great! 🙂
