Today I’m thrilled to welcome fellow book blogger Lorna aka LJ to the book review café. Lorna blogs at Ontheshelfreviews and I would urge you to take a look around her fabulous blog, if you haven’t already of course. LJ mainly reviews mystery/thrillers, she’s also an unpublished writer and posts the odd short story in her blog. So without further ado I’m handy you over to LJ and her #TopFiveThursday post.
Top five books you’ve read so far this year?
Oh, starting off with a tough one! It took me a while to whittle it down to just five:
The Fear by CL Taylor
Never Rest by Jon Richter
Doll Face by Dylan H Jones
The Sherlock Effect by Raymond Kay Lyon
Ballad For A Mad Girl by Vicki Wakefield
Top five authors you think everyone should read?
Chelsea Cain – I’m always surprised when people haven’t heard of her, her Gretchen Lowell series is amazing.
JK Rowling – Harry Potter and now Cormoran Strike, need I say more?
Sharon Bolton – I’ve been a fan of hers since I discovered her in a local library (back when she was called SJ Bolton) and she is one of the best psychological thriller writers out there in my humble opinion.
Terry Pratchett – One of the only writers whose books make me laugh out loud.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – I had to get Sherlock Holmes in here somewhere lol!
Top five books you want to read before the year is out?
The Chalk Man by CL Taylor
The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
The Girl In The Ice by Robert Bryndza
Ritual by Adam Nevill
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
Top five tips you would give to new bloggers?
I’m fairly new myself so I’ll do my best with this one!
Try to keep to a schedule. I found this one out early on, if you post here there and everywhere I think people find it harder to find your posts.
It’s okay to say no. I have a terrible time saying no to people so I always end up taking on more stuff than I should. Recently I’ve learnt its not the end of the world if you say no to an author, there’s plenty of other bloggers out there!
Join Facebook or Twitter. Both have a fantastic community of bloggers that will make you feel like you’re not so alone.
Ignore the trolls. There’s be a huge hike in book blogger hate lately but don’t let them discourage you, your reviews are your opinions, if they don’t like that its their problem.
And lastly enjoy it!
Top five blogs you follow?
So this took me the longest to decide because I follow so many amazing bloggers, but here we go:

Who is LJ? Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Lorna but most people call me LJ. I live in Liverpool with my son and partner. I became a book blogger to share my love of books and my blog On The Shelf Reviews has just hit the one year mark. I mainly review mystery/thrillers but the odd different genre does sneak in there occasionally! I’m also an unpublished writer (I post the odd short story on my blog too) and expert procrastinator.
