The book review café A final farewell

Today I have some big news to share, in many ways this post saddens me, but it’s one that I have been thinking about writing for a while now, so please excuse the ramblings.

This year has been a particularly tough year for every one including myself, who would  have thought back in December 2019 that the coming year would bring a pandemic, lockdowns, that we would be unable to hug or see vulnerable family members, hairdressers, pubs and non essential shops would be shut for business? Not me that’s for sure!

But the last few months have taken it’s toll I’m not reading as much as I would like to, reviews are becoming harder to write, (after nearly 5 years of blogging I feel I’m repeating myself time after time), I’m hardly posting anything on my blog and  I feel I am doing a disservice to authors and publishers who have put there trust in me.

The burning question I kept returning to over the last few months was  ‘do I still enjoy blogging?’ and I must admit the answer was a resounding ‘no’, blogging was beginning to feel like a chore rather than something I loved and enjoyed. So after much thought and consideration I have decided to give up blogging and this post will be final one.

I’m hoping that I will now be able to read a book because I want to, no deadlines, no writing lengthy reviews or putting posts together, if I’m honest it feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I’m really looking forward to reading all the books that have been sat waiting patiently on my bookshelves.

Please don’t think I’m moaning or it’s ‘a woe is me post’ I really have loved every minute of my blogging journey, I just feel the time is right for me to hang up my blogger hat. Talking of ‘hats’ I take my hat off to all the bloggers who post every day of the week, I applaud each and everyone of you, I’m not sure people realise just how much time and effort go into running a blog, it’s a full time job in itself.

Before I go I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to each and everyone of my followers, believe it or not I rarely check my stats, so I was flabbergasted to see I now have over 20,000 followers, although I’m sure the only reason some people follow me is because they think I’m a real book café (sorry if you were disappointed, when you found out it was a book review site🤣🤣).

A big thank you to all my fellow bloggers you’re an amazing bunch, supportive, passionate and incredibly focused on sharing the book love, and very generous to boot.  I have lost count of the number of bloggers who attended book events and sent me copies of books that they picked up knowing they were my favourite authors a big thank you to each and everyone of you.

Thank you for all your support, shares, likes and comments, especially when I know most of you all have such busy life’s. There are so many bloggers I would like to thank individually but I’m sure I would forget someone, and it would be a hell of a long list!

A big thank you must go to all the fabulous publishers and authors out there who have given me the opportunity to read the most amazing books, a special thank you must go to Bookouture and Orenda Books, and two very special ladies Kim Nash and Karen Sullivan who have been a huge support to me over the years, and have provided me with some of the best books I’ve had the pleasure to read.

I have been incredible lucky to have become friends with some of my favourite authors and even now when I get an email or a message from them I still get really excited, and I would like to thank each and everyone of them for allowing me to read their ‘book babies’ and trusting me to write a review.

Who knows in six months time I may regret my decision, but I know I can always return to the book review café, become a guest book blogger  or I could start up a brand new book blog (I have the perfect name on the back burner, just in case!).

I will continue to follow my favourite bloggers and hopefully keep up with all things bookish, as I need recommendations for books to buy, just because I’m giving up blogging it doesn’t mean I will give up my passion for buying and reading books (sorry Mr book review café if you thought that was case 🤣😂).

I will keep my Twitter and Instagram accounts open so hopefully I will interact with some of you on there and the FB book clubs I belong too. I will also continue to share some reviews on Goodreads, Amazon, and Instagram when the mood takes.

So for now it’s…Farewell, keep safe and keep sharing the book love.

great post Lorraine but sorry to see you go x I totally understand you though. This is why I rarely review fiction now and changed to craft blogging, something i enjoy more. I can sit and listen to an audio book instead. My decision changed when I had a bad experience with an author who didnt like my 3 star review and was quite nasty. sending love x

Gosh I am sorry to see you go, but completely understand why. I wish you happiness in your more relaxed reading, and hope the future is better for you than the first half of this year. Farewell (not goodbye) and thank you for all your reviews. Wishing you all the best. Emma

I’m so sad to hear this Lorraine but totally get it. I have also felt the same way this year and have thought of giving up many times. I hope this is just a break for you so go read all the books and fall in love with reading again. And I just know that there’s one book out there that will get your blogging juices going and you are going to want to write the review of your life to sell it to us all because you are so passionate about it! So I look forward to that day. You will always be a blogger in my eyes and one of the best and most loved out there so I know this isn’t the end but you need a break from it all. You’ve been a supportive friend and I will miss you. Xxx

Sorry to hear you are closing the doors to the Book Review Cafe Lorraine but if it’s becoming a chore then it’s the right thing to do. Enjoy making your way through that tbr pile! Best wishes to you.

I’m not really surprised to see this post but that doesn’t make me any less sad. Who am I going to mock now? 😉. Yours was one of the first blogs I followed when I started and I will miss you, and your posts, fiercely. Take excellent care of yourself, sweets. Much love ❤️

Hi Lorraine, sorry to see you go, you are such a thoughtful and kind reviewer. I hope you get your reading mojo back and can just enjoy things at your own pace. Thank you for reviewing my books in the past and hope you might continue to enjoy them even more once the pressure is off! All the best and thanks, Alice

It’s often very hard to do the thing that’s right for you. There’s an unseen, and sometimes hard to define, pressure to keep going when you really shouldn’t – and I’m not just talking about blogging here. So my first thought was actually: Well done! And then I realised I wouldn’t get to read your blogs again… You will be greatly missed, but I’m glad you’re doing what’s right for you. Take care of yourself

Lorraine, I am so sad to hear this, you will be greatly missed. You are one of my favourite bloggers, and always so supportive of us all. I hope we will still see you around on Twitter etc. And, if you ever get the urge to write a review of a marvellous book, but don’t want to start your blog up again, I would always be happy to have you as a guest blogger on A Little Book Problem.

So sorry to see the review cafe closed 😢 Completely understand why though – there’s nothing worse than when blogging becomes a chore and you’re dreading having to read something. Hope you have a lovely time reading without having to worry about reviewing and we’ll see you around on social media 💕💕

Sorry to read the café is closing; it’s always been a trusty place to read reviews. Still, you have obviously thought about this and that means it’s right for you – enjoying reading is far more important. If you decide to ‘make a comeback’ that will be great but your decision.

Keep well, take good care of yourself, read unfettered and happily. Jx

I am sorry to see you go, but you have to do what is right for you and it would be a terrible shame if you lost your love of reading. Good luck for the future and whatever you decide to do next.

Lorraine, I know what you mean. You were there when I started and were an inspiration. I’ve had times when I’ve wanted to stop but I’ve become very selective about blog tours now. I only post 2 to 3 times a month nowadays and that is enough.
Take care, and rediscover the joy of reading.

I’m really sorry to see you depart. Your blog was one of the first I came across when I began crafting my own and you were a huge influence on how I approached it. You have always had time for me and my blog and I can’t say thanks enough. Blogging can be a tough gig and I think quite a few of us are feeling that way at the moment. I have been off and on for 7 months now and I am only just feeling like I can throw myself back in. I hope this isn’t goodbye, maybe we will see you in 2021 when things hopefully calm down.

So sorry to see you go and wish you much luck going forward. Eventually we have to get through this, but if your enthusiasm was sagging, I can understand. There are times when it feels like work to me as well, but then I get a nice comment from an author and keep going at it. Will look for you on the WWW.
